How do I Know if I Need a New Roof?
- If you have shingles blown off the roof

- If you have stains in the sheet rock of your home. Also if you have wrinkles in the paint and or blisters in the paint

Can my roof be repaired?
- If your roof on your home is less than ten years old
- If the wind has blown off just a few shingles
- If your roofing contractor believes that a repair will work for a long period of time
What type of roof is best for my home?
- To have shingles on the roof the pitch of the roof should be at least a 4 in 12 (every 12 inches the slope raises 4 inches) pitched roof. There is a wide variety of shingles that you can select for a shingle roof. Talk to your roofing contractor and ask to see all the selections that are available.
- If you have a low slope roof, you can choose from a Tar and Gravel to a Single-Ply roof system. Your roofing contractor can help you decide what is best for your home.
How can I protect my home from ice dams?
- Install a layer of ice and water shield on the bottom edge of the roof. The ice and water shield should extend 24 inches inside your warm wall. In heavy snow areas an extra three feet of snow and ice shield would be good help with ice dams.
- Strip in the drip metal with a layer of ice and water shield.
- Good ventilation also will help to keep the ice dams from forming on the eaves of the roof.
- You can install heat cables on the roof eaves and in the valleys.
What type of ventilation should I use for my home?
- Turtle vents work well in most cases, along with the proper intake ventilation. Your roofing contractor can help you figure out what will work best for your home.
- Powered vents work well when there is poor intake and the attic area is a large area. These vents are on an automatic control that works on temperature and humidity.
- The ridge vent is our most popular vent. A good intake ventilation system along with the ridge vent is the most effective.
